Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche claims to be meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell at AG Pam Bondi’s direction to ask “What do you know?”
First of all, there was a multi-year F.B.I. investigation of Epstein that included an investigation of Maxwell that wound up with her in prison.
This is not finding out “what she knows.” It’s finding out what she plans to say, if she’s given the chance, and almost certainly it’s going to delicately feel out what the price of the papers will be. Which is, you know, corrupt, but who cares anymore.
Bondi is in a bind, because, in demonizing the Biden Administration, the Trump Campaign excoriated it for not releasing the Epstein files. Now that they’re in power, they seem strangely reluctant to do so, and have tasked 1,000 FBI agents with combing through the files to flag all mentions of the President.
The MAGA base is screaming for meat, and it had better be rare and bloody. For once, Trump can’t seem to turn the page and send everybody after a distraction; he even pulled out his ace-card, a charge that Obama improperly handled an investigation into the first Trump campaign. That usually sends MAGA into paroxysms; but it’s not working right now, in spite of Fox News’s dogged attempt to ignore the Epstein case.
Ghislaine Maxwell has the receipts, it is assumed; Trump knows it, but does not yet know what she might say if she appears before Congress. Consequently, Slimy Shit of The Month Mike Johnson has moved up the Congressional break to avoid forcing his members to vote No on Trump’s behalf and facing angry MAGA voters at home.
The approach to Maxwell likely won’t reveal anything new, but it is likely to involve a staged exculpation of the President. There’s really no other reason for the Administration to approach her at this point.
